Senator Walters recognizes the crucial relationship that exists between education, workforce development, and economic development in our region. Senator Walters’ wife, Dr. Barbara Walters, is a retired educator with thirty years combined experience in thePublic Schools of Robeson County and Robeson Community College. Senator Walters hopes to continue his wife’s dedication to public education in Hoke and Robeson counties by:
- Raising teacher pay to attract the best and brightest teachers
- Reducing class size
- Enhancing our school buildings with the latest technology and most up-to-date teaching tools
In addition to his commitment to support K-12 public education in Robeson and Hoke counties, Senator Walters understands the community importance provided by the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and Robeson Community College. That’s why Senator Walters will work to:
- Expand worker training programs at Robeson Community College based on the skills needed by local businesses
- Increase funding for the University of North Carolina-Pembroke’s Thomas Family Center for Entrepreneurship and the University of North Carolina-Pembroke's Regional Center for Economic, Community and Professional Development
Senator Walters understands that having the appropriate educational infrastructure here at home can provide the skills and tools to assist local citizens become successful business people and move the local economy forward from this recession.
