Senator Walters understands the need to get the citizens of North Carolina back to work. As a small business owner and lifelong resident of Robeson County, Senator Walters knows that reducing the unemployment rate by creating good paying jobs will jumpstart the local economy and get it moving forward again.
As the President of Claybourn Walters Logging Company since 2002, Senator Walters has carefully guided his business through the worst recession since the Great Depression. His familiarity with local small business owners and entrepreneurs has developed from his service on the Fairmont Board of BB&T and on the Board of the Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce, where he works to support locally owned and operated businesses. Senator Walters’ goals for moving Robeson and Hoke counties forward include:
- Completing the Southeastern Regional Farmer’s Market Equestrian Center as it was promoted by Senator David Weinstein. Along the I-74 corridor, this location provides an excellent opportunity for the development of the tourism industry in the region.
- Promoting the Carolina Horse Park at Five Points as a premiere horse sports venue will help bolster the local economy and tourism industry in Hoke County.
- Attracting tourists with the Equestrian Center and the Carolina Horse Park will require additional economic development, creating restaurants, hotels, and other service industries.
As State Senator, Michael Walters will take the business expertise he learned here in Robeson County to Raleigh to help lead North Carolina to a brighter economic future.
